ABOUT THIS EXHIBIT
Willem de Kooning (1904–1997) was a Dutch-born American artist and
a major figure in Abstract Expressionism. His paintings moved
between abstraction and the human figure, often using energetic
brushwork and repeated revision. This exhibit gathers Smithsonian
material related to his art, career and historical record.
