ABOUT THIS EXHIBIT
Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was a French artist whose use of color,
line and simplified form helped reshape modern painting. Associated
with Fauvism early in his career, he later worked extensively in
drawing, sculpture and paper cut-outs. This exhibit gathers
Smithsonian material connected to Matisse and his legacy.
